2009 Chevrolet Impala Ball Joint Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower control arm ball joint on 2009 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Your first step to replace the lower Control Arm Ball Joint requires lifting and stabilizing the vehicle. Start by removing wheels and tires then continue with the lower Control Arm. A suitable vise holds the lower Control Arm while you need to drill out the rivet heads from this component with an appropriate drill size. The next step combines hammer impacts with drift punches for removing excess rivets from the Control Arm before extracting the Ball Joint. Install the new Ball Joint into the lower Control Arm with new Ball Joint bolts pointing downward and proceed with installation. Fasten the new Ball Joint retaining nuts at 68 nm (50 lb ft) torque settings. Return the lower Control Arm into its appropriate position then reattach the tires and wheels last. Complete the repair by removing the support equipment before lowering the vehicle.
