2009 GMC Envoy Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Hose inlet and outlet on a 4.2L engine on 2009 GMC Envoy?
A: The replacement of power steering gear inlet and outlet hose on 4.2l engines requires that you first lift the vehicle while providing support then remove the engine protection shield. The work starts by installing a drain pan under the vehicle before unbolting the Power Steering Hose assembly retaining bolt and detaching the Power Steering Hose assembly from the power steering gear alongside the power steering return hose and cooler hose from the cooler. Lower the vehicle after disconnection of power steering pressure hose and cooler hose from the Power Steering Pump. First detach the Power Steering Hose assembly bracket mounting bolt followed by taking out the battery tray and the fuse block cover. The maintenance process begins with removing the negative Battery Cable and positive Battery Cable connections from the fuse block before separating the wiring harness connector and the fuse block wiring harnesses. Keep the upper fuse block assembly to position on top of the engine after you have removed it from the lower fuse block. To access the Power Steering Hose assembly the first step involves removing three bolts from the bracket at the wheel well followed by bracket removal and finally the bolts retaining the hose assembly to frame brackets before successfully extracting the hose from the car. The power steering gear should receive thorough cleaning on both inlet and outlet to prevent any potential contamination. Extract the power steering gear oil seal using the j 44586 but utilize the extraction end while using a flat-bladed tool for leverage. The workbench procedure includes two parts: first locate all hoses then remove 3 clamps after which you can extract the faulty Power Steering Hose. Utilize the j 44586 with its seal installation end to place a new power steering gear oil seal correctly in the assembly before tightening all 3 retaining clamps. Proceed to lower the vehicle while you install the Power Steering Hose assembly by tightening the frame brackets retaining bolts to 10 nm (89 lb in). Reinstall the Power Steering Hose assembly bracket on the wheel well by fastening its retaining bolt at 10 nm (89 lb in). Place the connectors correctly within the lower fuse block before installing the upper fuse block assembly and connecting its locking tabs. Secure the upper fuse block bolts at 6 nm (53 lb in) torque and reconnect all wiring harness clips together with fuse block wires before connecting the harness electrical connector. Proceed to reinstall the battery fuse cover before recovering the battery tray while also connecting the positive then negative battery cables. The Power Steering Hose assembly connecting to the front crossmember bracket needs tightening at its mounting bolt to reach 10 nm (89 lb in). Reposition the power steering cooler hose along with pressure hose to the Power Steering Pump before securing the bolt at 25 nm (18 lb ft). Apply the bolt that holds the power steering gear assembly in place before tightening it to 12 nm (106 lb in). After this install the power steering return hose and cooler hose on the power steering cooler device followed by the Power Steering Hose assembly to the power steering gear. First clear the drain pan and put on the engine protection shield before lowering the vehicle while performing the power steering system bleed process.
