Position the centerpunch 10 mm (0.4 in) downward from the tube base. Secure the shock absorber in a vise at a horizontal position while extending its shock absorber rod fully. Use a 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit at the centerpunched area of the shock absorber to drain its gas or gas/oil fluid mixture after which shop towels should be used to absorb the escaping oil. Another centerpunch marking appears in the middle of the tube and a similar 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit produces a hole at this spot to release additional oil. Place the shock absorber with holes facing downward on a drain pan and use the tube to push and pull the rod for emptying all oil from the shock absorber.
