The first step when replacing an Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor involves extracting the fuel injector sight shield. The cooling system should be drained through Static Fill or Vac-N-Fill techniques. The engine harness electrical connector needs removal from the ECT sensor before you remove the sensor itself. Sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or an equivalent should be used to treat the threads of the sensor before new ECT sensor installation takes place. Install the ECT sensor by torquing it to 20 Nm (15 lb ft) using proper tools. Connect the engine harness electrical connector back to its position on the ECT sensor. Complete the cooling system filling according to the Static Fill or Vac-N-Fill method before reinstalling the fuel injector sight shield.
