• Q: How to Service and Repair the Exhaust Hanger and System Insulator on 2010 Cadillac DTS?

  A: A vehicle elevation and support system must be used before starting exhaust system insulator repair work on the hanger and bracket. The exhaust hanger needs removal by disassembling from the rear suspension support bracket bolt and applying lubricating solution to the exhaust hanger rod before separation. Pull outward on the exhaust hanger to remove it from the exhaust pipe hanger rod before removing the rear exhaust hanger to hanger bracket nut. A lubricating material should be applied to the rear hanger rod to simplify its removal. The removal procedure requires you to pull the rear hanger away from the rod that holds the exhaust pipe hanger. To install the rear exhaust hanger use soap solution on both the rear hanger rod and the inner hole of the hanger before inserting the rod inside the hanger then properly positioning it in the rear exhaust hanger bracket. Fasten the rear exhaust hanger to its hanger bracket through tightening to 30 Nm (22 lb ft). Apply soapy solution to the exhaust pipe hanger rod along with the inner diameter of the center exhaust hanger. After pressing the exhaust hanger onto the hanger rod position it to the rear suspension support bracket bolt and tighten the bolt to 30 Nm (22 pound feet) torque before lowering the vehicle.
