2010 Cadillac Escalade Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on the 1500 Series on 2010 Cadillac Escalade?
A: Before starting work on the 1500 series rear disc brakes check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If the fluid is above the medium mark between maximum and minimum amounts drain the fluid until you reach the midpoint. After lifting the vehicle put safety stands in place and take off the tire and wheel unit. Push the Brake Caliper Piston back with a large c-clamp on top of the caliper to completely draw the piston in. Equipping an open end wrench over the guide pin to loosen and eliminate the bolt from the brake caliper while keeping the caliper stable with heavy wires safeguards the hydraulic brake hose from harm. Lift the brake caliper up and hold it before removing both spring clips and brake pads from their bracket. Wipe denatured alcohol over the mating surfaces of the pad hardware and clean all residue from piston faces on the brake caliper. Do this by spreading brake lubricant thinly on caliper bracket parts. Attach spring clips to the bracket first before placing brake pads into position. Fit the brake caliper through its slots onto the mount before installing new guide pin bolts. Hold the caliper guide pin with an open end wrench when tightening its bolt to 28 lb ft using a torque wrench. After putting the wheel back and dropping the vehicle down install the tire then apply the brake pedal slowly to 2/3 of its travel before releasing it while the engine stays off. Keep pressing the brake pedal until you achieve a solid pressure then put fresh brake fluid into the master cylinder tank until it reaches the recommended mark. Maintain a solid brake pedal push for 30 seconds to let the Brake Pad insulators sit. Perform this operation two times after which you should break in the brake pads and rotors.
