  • Q: How to Replace a Rear Brake Disc on 2010 Cadillac STS?
    A: You need to change the rear Brake Disc (J56) after ensuring the ignition is off and securely raising the vehicle. Begin by removing the tire and wheel assembly and detaching the lower and upper brake caliper bolts subsequently. The brake caliper needs to be supported by heavy mechanic wire to avoid breaking the hydraulic flexible brake hose. The first step is to take out the Brake Disc screw followed by the Brake Disc. The j-2619-a (Slide Hammer w/Adapter) should be used with the j-46277 (Disc Removal Tool) to extract the disc by placing the latter between the disc friction surfaces and using the former. Check the park brake elements to identify any hold down spring bends or worn shoe linings then conduct needed repairs or replacements. The j-42450-a (Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit) and j-41013 (Disc Resurfacing Kit) must be used to clean hub/axle flange and Brake Disc surfaces before installation. Fasten the Brake Disc to its place with a Brake Disc screw that you should tighten to 14 nm (124 lb in). Apply gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) threadlocker on 2/3 of the threaded length after cleaning denatured alcohol through caliper to knuckle mounting bolts and threaded holes. After a 10-minute curing period for the threadlocker apply the breaker caliper in its proper place while hand-tightening the bolts to 120nm. Reinstall the wheel and tire assembly and conduct pad burnishing procedures on brake pads and discs whenever the disc received replacement or refinishing.
