How to Remove and Replace Rear Brake Calipers (J56) on 2010 Cadillac STS?

Inspection of fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir should be the first step before moving forward with rear brake caliper replacement (J56). When the fluid sits at midpoint between full and minimum levels maintenance is not required or you should lower the fluid to reach the mid-point. After supporting the vehicle from above, uninstall the wheel and tire group. The rear brake caliper replacement (J56) requires a plastic flat-bladed trim tool to press the caliper pistons into the caliper piston bores while the tool is inserted between the rotor and inboard Brake Pad. Sustain pressure until both inner pistons are compressed and repeat for the outboard Brake Pad. After disposing of the two copper brake hose gaskets cut the brake hose to caliper bolt while pulling the brake hose from the caliper. Seal the openings with plugs to stop fluid loss. First remove brake caliper bolts before extracting brake caliper from the vehicle. Apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to two-thirds of the caliper mounting bolt threads before cleaning both surfaces with denatured alcohol and allowing the adhesive to cure for about ten minutes. Add high-temperature silicone brake lubricant to the brake caliper pin then install the caliper mounting bolts which should be torqued to 120 nm (88 lb ft). Reinstall the brake caliper opening and brake hose while using new copper brake hose gaskets before torquing the brake hose fitting bolt to 34 nm (25 lb ft). Use a torque wrench to achieve 2/3 pedal travel when applying force to the Brake Pedal under engine-off conditions and slow release it repeatedly until pedal resistance becomes firm enough to seat caliper pistons and pads. To complete the installation substitute the tire and wheel unit and carefully lower the vehicle.
