2010 Chevrolet HHR Air Bag Clockspring Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2010 Chevrolet HHR?
A: A proper air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable replacement starts with straightening front wheels and centering the Steering Wheel. Disable the sir system. You must first remove the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module before you can take off both the Steering Wheel and the steering column covers. Take the sir coil harness connector and the wiper/washer harness connector and the headlamp/turn signal harness connector out of the sir coil module assembly. Insert a small flat-bladed tool under the base of the sir coil assembly to pry up its two retaining tabs before sliding the piece off the steering column. The sir coil module assembly requires you to remove both the headlamp/turn signal switch and the wiper washer switch. Before final assembly install the wiper washer switch followed by the headlamp/turn signal switch to the sir coil module assembly while tightening the switch screws. Check the sir coil position after which you should slide the complete sir coil assembly onto the steering column before pressing it into its final position. Replace your wiper/washer harness while also completing the sir coil harness connections to the headlamp/turn signal. After installation of the steering column covers and inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module you should install the Steering Wheel. Finally, enable the sir system.
