2010 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear parking brake cable (Disc) on 2010 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Begin the parking brake rear cable (Disc) replacement process by taking out the console rear trim plate. First remove all tension from the front cable through releasing the adjustment nut completely. Free the suitable end of your park brake cable from its connection to the cable equalizer. Raise and support the vehicle. Start by releasing the tab on the underbody retainer then remove the cable unless you are using a new replacement cable where you need to remove the underbody retainer from the vehicle. You must use a solid tool to pry the C-shaped retainer at the rear axle trailing arm pivot bracket in order to release the park brake cable from its position on the cable guide tube. Rephrase the instruction by performing these steps: Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly, detach the park brake cable end from the caliper park brake lever, use a flat-bladed screwdriver to compress the retaining tabs on the park brake cable fitting until it disconnects from the cable bracket. Three steps are required to remove the park brake cable guide including unbolting its retaining bolt and extracting the cable from its mount. To install the park brake cable fit it through the caliper cable bracket before tightening the rear park brake cable guide retaining bolt to 10 Nm torque while ensuring the retaining tabs rest fully into position. Reposition the caliper park brake lever cable end before reinstalling the rear tire with its wheel and stuffing the park brake cable into the cable guide tube. Concerning the mounting of the rear axle trailing arm pivot bracket C-shaped retainer: position it onto the park brake cable. When installing a brand new cable the underbody retainer should be directly fastened to the vehicle structure but when using an existing cable install it on the underbody retainer and push the tab until it locks in position. After lowering the vehicle the equalizer must receive the park brake cable end and require cable tension adjustment before installing the console rear trim plate.
