How to replace the parking brake backing plate on Cadillac STS?

The procedure to change the parking Brake Backing Plate starts by lifting and supporting the vehicle and continues with removal of the rear wheel tire assembly followed by the rear Wheel Hub and bearing assembly. The adjuster nut should get rotated until bolt reaches a closed position before removing the shoe hold down spring and shoe assembly from the actuator by simultaneously spreading and pulling with hand force. First remove the dust cover followed by the two park brake cable bracket to knuckle mounting bolts to take off the backing plate from the knuckle. A flat bladed tool should be used to extend the actuator retaining tab for backing plate actuator removal. First install the actuator to the backing plate while extending the actuator retaining tab then connect the backing plate to the knuckle and fasten it with the two park brake cable bracket to knuckle mounting bolts which should be tightened to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). To install the park brake shoe assembly first spread the shoe slightly while you pull it over the actuator assembly followed by the shoe hold down spring installation. Begin by adjusting the park brake and reinstall the rear Wheel Hub together with the bearing assembly. Proceed by reattaching the rear tire and wheel assembly and finally lower the vehicle.
