  Before starting to replace the front disc brake pads (JE5, JL9) you must first check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If the level is halfway between the maximum and minimum points no fluid needs to be drained but if it is higher you should reduce it to the midway point. After properly supporting the vehicle you should take off the tire and wheel unit at first. Apply the c-clamp to the Brake Pad outer side and brake caliper back to push brake pistons inside. Tighten the clamp slowly until pistons are fully compressed. Wash the brake caliper guide pin bolt threads with denatured alcohol and put threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) on two-thirds of the threading space until no gap remains. You can join the brake caliper to its bracket after the threadlocker takes 10 minutes to set. With the back up wrench hand tool thread the brake caliper guide pin bolts into their sockets and tighten to 32 nm (24 lb ft). Put the wheel back into place then without starting the engine press the Brake Pedal about two-thirds of its range and relax it before doing it again until the pedal feels fully firm after moving the brake caliper pistons and pads into position. Top off the brake master cylinder before making multiple braking actions to smooth the Brake Pad surfaces.

  Before starting with rear disc Brake Pad replacement for jl9 or je5 pads check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. You should remove fluid from the reservoir until it sits at the midway point between maximum and minimum markings. First support the vehicle before removing the wheel assembly and tire from its position. After a ten-minute curing period for the threadlocker users can apply high-temperature silicone lube to the guide pin followed by lower brake caliper pin bolt installation and tightening until it reaches 60 n.m (44 lb ft). Install the tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle until the engine is off and slowly push Brake Pedal to reach about 2/3 of its extent before transitioning to smooth release. Follow the procedure several times until you reach a solid Brake Pedal response then add fluid to the master cylinder tank before pad and rotor burnishing.
