  Q: How to replace the door lock on Cadillac XLR?

  Begin Door Lock replacement by moving the seat forward and tilting the seat back and then disconnecting the battery. Proceed with removing the door sill trim and b-pillar trim panel followed by the mastic cover from the Door Lock access hole. The fasteners from the b-pillar mounted Door Lock need removal to free the lock so it can be taken out through the body access hole. Detach the Door Lock connector by unlocking its electrical connector lock and putting the lock into the open position. The removal of fasteners securing the rear lock cover starts the process of unseating the cable sheath ends for complete lock cover removal. By turning the cable ends once you can unlock them from their position on the lock-actuating lever so the lock becomes removable from the vehicle. When installing replace the rear cover from the lock then attach the cable ends to the replacement lock by matching them to the actuating lever before rotating each end by one quarter. The rear release function must connect both to the lock upper lever and to the floor-mounted release cable on its lower lever. Insert the sheath of the cable inside its molded lock cover recess followed by fixing the lock cover with fasteners that require 2 n.m (19 lb in) torque. Mount the electrical connector by positioning the connector lock onto the Door Lock mechanism until it reaches the seated position. Place the lock inside the defined area on the b-pillar body then insert fasteners through the cover plate until they reach the Door Lock in the b-pillar which requires tightening screws to 10 n.m (89 lb in). After replacing the Door Lock access hole cover with new mastic you should reconnect the battery before checking the lock operation by hand and by electrical power. The final installation requires seating the seat back to its original position after adding the b-pillar trim panel as well as the door sill cover.
