Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the lower intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Avalanche 2500?
A:
Before replacing the lower intermediate Steering Shaft users must place both front wheels straight and lock the Steering Column in position to protect the sir coil assembly from harm. Insert the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (part number J 42640) through the lower access hole of the Steering Column. Use markings to preserve the correct fitment of intermediate shaft parts as the upper shaft meets the lower shaft and the lower coupler connects to the steering gear input shaft. Start by removing the bolt that links the upper shaft to the lower shaft and the bolt from the lower shaft coupler. Move the intermediate shaft assembly towards the dash until the lower shaft coupler clears the steering gear input shaft for extraction from the upper shaft. To install the intermediate shaft first position the upper end of the shaft into the upper shaft seat and the lower end of the shaft coupler followed by mark alignment when reinstalling the same shaft. Screw the lower end of the intermediate shaft coupler onto the steering gear worm shaft and tighten bolt to 47 nm torque (35 ft. Lbs.) before permanently securing the coupler pinch bolt to 50 nm torque (37 ft. Lbs.). You must first eliminate the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) from the entry point of the Steering Column.
