Chevrolet Blazer Engine Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: What are the steps involved in servicing the Engine Control Module (ECM) on Chevrolet Blazer?
A: Decisions regarding powertrain control module (PCM) service include replacing the pcm itself or executing electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) programming. Inspection of the pcm should occur before replacement to verify that a correct part is chosen. The operation of disconnecting power and removing or installing pcm connectors must be performed only when the ignition is off to protect the pcm's internal components. Surface inspection of pcm connectors must be followed by cleaning all debris while double-checking the presence of appropriate pcm module connector gaskets which act to stop contamination. First disconnect the negative Battery Cable before relocating the pcm retention bar along with its retainer to free the pcm from its mounting bracket and then disconnect the electrical connectors. Begin the installation by checking the service number on the replacement pcm matches the defective unit in order to proceed with replacement. Complete the electrical connector attachment by securing screws to 8 n.m (71 lb in) before placing the pcm retainer into bracket slots. After pulling out the retention bar install the negative Battery Cable. Programming the pcm should be performed at the end of the installation.
