Chevrolet Cobalt Tie Rod Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering linkage outer tie rod on Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The replacement of the steering linkage outer Tie Rod begins with removing the front tire and wheel assembly. The first step involves applying paint to the inner Tie Rod at its inner Tie Rod nut before loosening the rack and pinion inner Tie Rod nut. Discard the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End nut before continuation of the procedure. Use the j-24319-b (Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller) to disconnect the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End from the Steering Knuckle but keep count of the required rotations to break the attachment with the rack and pinion inner Tie Rod. Require owner to remove the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End from the inner Tie Rod after discarding the inner Tie Rod nut. When checking the rack and pinion inner Tie Rod threads for damage and debris it is essential to perform cleaning or repair operations as required. To install the new component you should place the rack and pinion inner Tie Rod nut at its match point then put on the outer Tie Rod End while duplicating the number of turns noted during removal procedure. The new outer Tie Rod End first goes to the Steering Knuckle before you install its accompanying nut. Tighten this nut to 25 nm (18 lb ft) then continue with another 90 degrees of tightening torque. To finish reinstall the front wheel assembly before adjusting the front toe measurement according to standard procedures.
