  • Q: How to Replace a Timing Cover on an Engine on Chevrolet Cobalt?
    A: To replace the front cover of the engine, first eliminate the drive belt tensioner and the crankshaft balancer. Next disconnect the bolts and the engine front cover to water pump bolt. Replace the engine front cover gasket with suitable fitting tool and remove the crankshaft front cover oil seal and discard friction washer. To install, begin by installing a new crankshaft front oil seal and a new friction washer. Place and install a new engine front cover gasket onto the dowel pins, then place and install the engine front cover. Mount the front cover of the engine to the bolt of the pump and use torque of 25 nm (18 lbft) to clamp the nut, followed by mounting of the front cover of the engine where it should be fixed with the use of 25 (18 lbft). Finally, replace the crankshaft balancer and the drive belt tensioner.
