In Chevrolet HHR vehicles, the Tie Rod End is an important part of its steering system which links the steering rack to the steering knuckles. Lack of this component would cause instability of vehicles and poor control of the direction required in certain situations. The Tie Rod End consists of two parts: first, the inner tie rod end connected with a threaded hole on the steering gear to help make smooth steering responses; second, the outer tie rod end connected with a nut in the outer end of the tie rod to provide stabilize for tower. What is more, as it has been already mentioned, there are neither differences in types oscillating nor in styles of the Tie Rod Ends; however, their main purpose remains the same each time when used in any of HHR models. The function also stresses the use of the Tie Rod End because the design presents the ability of the vehicle to move smoothly.

Chevrolet HHR Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Tie Rod End on a Chevrolet HHR?
    A:
Replacement of the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End begins by taking out the front tire-wheel assembly. The rack and pinion inner tie rod nut requires initial lightening before you remove the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End nut. Seamlessly separate the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End from the Steering Knuckle using the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B). Record each complete turning motion that removes the Tie Rod End from the inner rack and pinion component. Gather the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End from the rack and pinion inner tie rod assembly and discard the inner tie rod nut. High-quality care must be applied to rack and pinion inner tie rod threads. Examine threads for damage while cleaning and repairing or replacing them when required. Place a new rack and pinion inner tie rod nut before attaching the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End to the rack and pinion inner tie rod maintaining the same rotation count that existed during removal. Put the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End onto the Steering Knuckle before tightening its new nut to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) with an additional 90 degrees of rotation. Before completing the repair, install the front tire/wheel after tightening the inner tie rod nut while readjusting the front toe.
