  Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on Chevrolet Lumina?

  The first step to install a new Brake Booster is to remove the fuel injector sight shield. You should not detach Brake Lines both from the master cylinder or brake modulator in vehicles fitted with abs. When working on abs systems first remove the brake modulator then the master cylinder. Begin by taking off both the transmission fluid filler tube as well as the egr heat shield. Hold the Brake Pedal secure to protect the brake switch during Pushrod removal from the Brake Pedal. Pull out the Brake Booster Pushrod from the Brake Pedal while disconnecting its vacuum line at the Brake Booster. Secure the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-01) to the booster using nuts and torque them to 20 foot-pound force. Push the locking tab away from the dash while counterclockwise turning the booster with the j 22805-01 wrench after unlocking and using a flat bladed tool. Before you take off the booster disconnect the Pushrod from the Brake Pedal and keep the insulator boot intact on the dash front. Install the power Brake Booster holder onto the new booster by fixing the holder nuts at 27 nm torque (20 ft. Lbs.). Insert the Pushrod eye into the designated hole taking care to protect the insulator boot at the front of the dash. Slowly fit the booster into the mounting while facing counterclockwise to let its locking tabs connect to booster and mounting fixtures. Lock the booster flanges and tab spots completely before turning the part clockwise using the wrench on the j22805-01. Never insert a screwdriver in the locking tab during installation. The correct installation lets the locking tab glide upwards to fit securely in the locking notch. Fasten the Brake Booster Pushrod to the Brake Pedal and reconnect the vacuum hose at its specified location on the Brake Booster. Also put back the transmission fluid filler tube and the egr heat shield. After installing both items fit the brake modulator immediately followed by the master cylinder. Reinstall the fuel injector sight shield after all steps are complete.
