Chevrolet Prizm Automatic Transmission Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter for the 4 Speed-MS7 on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Vehicle lifting and suspension support must precede the service and repair operations for automatic transmission fluid/filter of the 4 speed-ms7. Six bolts and the left splash shield must be removed. A drain pan needs placement under the transaxle fluid pan before using a tool to remove the Drain Plug and empty the fluid. Be cautious when you detach the transaxle fluid pan to protect its mating surfaces or carefully apply a rubber mallet with wood block as a alternative to metal tools for removal. The next step involves removing 18 bolts and the transaxle fluid pan together with its gasket before proceeding to detach the fluid filter screen using 3 bolts and its gasket from the Valve Body. A tiny bit of clutch materials in the fluid pan is typical but substantial amounts sign that the pan requires disassembly with inspection. The inspection of the fluid pan should be followed by cleaning the fluid filter screen using solvent to dry thoroughly before replacing it in case the mesh shows damage. It is essential to clean transaxle fluid pan magnets together with the fluid pan bottom surface before removing gasket material from mating surfaces. Post assembly, position the two components consisting of fluid filter screen gasket and fluid filter screen on the Valve Body assembly by using three bolts with a torque setting of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Secure a new transaxle fluid pan gasket by installing the pan onto the transaxle with 18 bolts that should be tightened to 4.9 nm (43 inch lbs.). Reinstall the Drain Plug by tightening it to 17 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) and then discard the drain pan while fastening the left splash shield in place with 6 bolts at 5 nm (44 inch lbs.). To finish the process simply lower the vehicle and carry out transaxle fluid refill if needed.
