Chevrolet Prizm Cruise Control Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the cruise control switch on Chevrolet Prizm?
    A:
The first step for replacing the cruise control switch starts with removing the steering wheel inflatable restraint module. Separate the cruise control switch electrical connector from its attachment point on the steering wheel inflatable restraint module coil. Use a terminal remover from the Terminal Repair Kit (J 38125-B) to open the Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) on the cruise control switch electrical connector's top. V68.8 as a terminal remover from the J38125-B kit removes the red/blue wire from the cruise control switch electrical connector . First remove right horn contact bolts using an allen head socket and then separate the right horn contact from its position on the steering wheel. First detach the switch's three screws then extract both the switch and cruise control from the vehicle. Installation begins with placing the cruise control switch into the vehicle before securing it with three screws. Secure the right horn contact back onto the steering wheel through two allen head bolts which need twisting to 8.8 N.m (78 lb in). Secure the red/blue wire at the cruise control switch electrical connector then close the TPA that tops the connector. Last, attach the steering wheel inflatable restraint module coil to the cruise control switch electrical connector before installing the steering wheel inflatable restraint module back into place.
  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the cruise control switch on Chevrolet Prizm?
    A:
A Terminal Repair Kit (J 38125-B) serves as all required tools for cruise control switch maintenance and repair. Start by taking off the steering wheel inflatable restraint module followed by removing the cruise control switch electrical connector from its position on the steering wheel inflatable restraint module coil. The Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) on the top of the cruise control switch electrical connector must be opened using the Terminal Removal tool within the Terminal Repair Kit (J 38125-B). Next apply the same terminal remover to remove the red/blue wire from the cruise control switch electrical connector. An allen head socket helps you remove the right horn contact bolts so you can take out the right horn contact which is located on the steering wheel. Remove the three cruise control switch screws then fully detach the cruise control switch from the vehicle body. Use three screws to attach the cruise control switch firmly to your vehicle structure. Replace the right horn contact on the steering wheel using two allen head bolts while securing them at 8.8 N.m (78 lb in). Connect the red-blue wire to the cruise control switch electrical connector while closing the TPA on that connector. Completion of the installation requires attaching the cruise control switch electrical connector to the steering wheel inflatable restraint module coil then reinstalling the steering wheel inflatable restraint module.
