Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Coolant Temperature Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on Chevrolet Silverado 2500?
A: Cleansing the cooling system until its level sits below the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor position is required for sensor replacement. Remove the ECT sensor first by disconnecting its electrical connector then disconnecting the sensor from its mounting position. Installation of the new sensor requires verifying that replacement components match the specified part number according to application requirements. Apply GM P/N 12346004 sealant (Canadian P/N 10953480 equivalent to GM P/N 12346004) to the sensor threads before reusing your old ECT sensor. Screw down the ECT sensor with 20 N.m (15 lb ft) force. Place the ECT sensor electrical connector into position before you add coolant to refill the cooling system. Handle the coolant sensor carefully since sensor damage affects fuel control system performance while maintaining proper torque will prevent damage.
