Chevrolet SSR Steering Wheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Wheel on Chevrolet SSR?
A: Steering Wheel replacement starts by disabling sir system then removing the inflator module. You must first pull and turn the horn plunger from the Steering Column at a 90-degree angle while it reaches its stop position. After disconnecting the Steering Wheel electrical connector remove the retaining nut connecting the Steering Wheel to its shaft. A proper installation requires the j 1859-a (J 1859-A) Steering Wheel puller in conjunction with either j 36541-a (J 36541-A) adapter or j 42578 (J 42578) legs to prevent damage to the Steering Column. Position the puller correctly then remove the Steering Wheel from its mount. First install the Steering Wheel onto the Steering Wheel shaft before tightening the retaining nut to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). The Steering Wheel electrical connector requires reinstallation before the horn plunger and inflator module should be installed followed by enabling the sir system.
