Chevrolet SSR Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End on Chevrolet SSR?
A: Start the procedure to service and repair the Rack And Pinion outer Tie Rod End by first supporting the vehicle while applying the necessary wheel and tire removal steps. You need to eliminate the outer tie rod retaining nut but keep away from disassembling steering linkage joints by inserting a wedge between joints and attached parts to protect the seals from harm. The outer tie rod disconnection from the Steering Knuckle requires the steering linkage and tie rod puller tool (J 24319-B). First loosen the jam nut and then remove the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod while discarding the jam nut. Thoroughly check the shaft for threads that are bent or broken while thoroughly cleaning the tapered knuckle steering surface. For successful installation of a new outer tie rod use suitable chassis lubricant on inner tie rod threads then connect the new jam nut to outer tie rod threads and link it to inner tie rod. After applying the exterior tie rod to the Steering Knuckle you must tighten the new retaining nut to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.) according to the fastener notice in service precautions. To complete the procedure you must mount the tire and wheel followed by lowering the vehicle to proceed with front toe adjustment.
