Known for their efficiency, the Steering Shaft uses good quality material to ensure that the users can use it for long without having to worry about it breaking down. Compliance with different types of SSR models, whether the modified 2003-2004 or 2005-2006 ones, remains a perfect way to preserve the identity of those vehicles. Chevrolet SSR Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the upper intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet SSR?
    A:
Before replacing the upper intermediate Steering Shaft you must first confirm that both front wheels face forward and the Steering Column is secured in place. After placing the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) in the lower trim cover access hole you can lock the Steering Column. Place the vehicle on supports then remove the pinch bolt which joins the upper intermediate to the lower intermediate shaft. Disconnect the upper intermediate shaft from its lower counterpart and put the vehicle into a lowered position. After removal of the knee bolster bracket write down how the upper intermediate shaft points to the Steering Column pinch bolt for proper reinstallation. Use the pinch bolt to remove the upper intermediate shaft from the Steering Column and then separate the upper intermediate shaft from the column. To install the new upper intermediate shaft connect it between the Steering Column. When reinstalling the pinch bolt it must face in the original direction so that it stays away from the Steering Column housing. After reinstalling the knee bolster bracket tighten the upper intermediate shaft to Steering Column pinch bolt nut at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Reposition the vehicle while you join the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft then torque the pinch bolt connecting these components to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). To complete the process lower the vehicle then remove the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640).
