To change the rear Brake Caliper Bracket on a 35 series, one must first check the brake master cylinder reservoir. If it is above the longer half of the maximum-full and minimum allowable portions, drain till you reach the longer half-point. Lift and support the vehicle, then take off the tire and wheel assembly. Check on the caliper functioning and exert a c-clamp to compress the brake caliper pistons. You loosen the brake caliper mounting bolts without taking them out and remove the Brake Caliper Bracket mounting bolts and remove brake caliper and bracket as an assembly. Remove the mounting bolts from the brake caliper mounting brackets and remove it from the caliper bracket. Check for the condition of the caliper assembly and hang it on the frame using the heavy gauge wire without hanging on the brake hose. Take off the
Brake Pads and the anti-rattle clips from the mounting bracket and inspect the bracket for cracks or damage and then replace it. Check the wear of bracket bushings and replace as necessary by inserting a flat-bladed tool between the bushing flange and bracket surface somewhere and working it around the bumper to remove the bushing, then inserting a socket over the boot onto the bushing flanges to install a new bushing. For installation, attach anti-rattle clips and brake pads to the bracket; install brake caliper on the bracket. Before securing the caliper bracket and caliper mounting bolts, remove any original adhesive, clean the bolt threads with brake parts cleaner, and apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 or red loctite #272 to the threads. Mount the brake caliper mounting bolts loosely, and then attach the bracket along with brake caliper as an assembly, tightening the caliper bracket mounting bolts to 300 nm (221 ft. Lbs.) while the brake caliper mounting bolts are tightened to108 nm (80 ft. Lbs.). Replace the tire and wheel assembly, unfasten the safety stands and bring the vehicle down. With the engine off, slowly press the Brake Pedal to about two thirds of its travel and release it slowly, repeating this until it forms a firm pedal to correctly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads. Finally, the master cylinder reservoir should be filled up to the right level with clean brake fluid.
