Coil Springs mounted on GMC Envoy cars are pivotal in the task of bearing the vehicle's weight and undertaking the task of shock absorption. Sometimes, they get damaged and the signs are usually evidenced by sagginess, bottoming, and uneven tire wear. It is possible to replace the energy absorbing coil springs as a way of regaining the correct and superior ride height, quality and wheel alignment. These consist of OEM specific springs, variable rate coils, and cargo coils especially for the heavy loads. Coil springs are used in lift and lowering kits and help in providing better handling by minimizing the amount of body roll and providing grip. Linear rate coil springs have constant rates of stiffness and the ability to change rates of compression, progression coil springs have a low rate of stiffness that gradually increases with respect to the rate of compression as well as dual rate coil springs with low rate of stiffness, which increases with an increasing rate of compression. Some of the suspensions systems that allow the car to have precise height adjustments include the adjustable coilovers and the height adjustable spring.

GMC Envoy Coil Springs Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front coil springs on GMC Envoy?
    A:
To remove the front Coil Springs you actually approach it by removing the Shock Absorber/spring assembly and paying close attention to the relationship between the mounting depot and the spring that existed before you remove the spring from the compressor. Second, remove the spring and mounting plate from the spring compressor. In the course of installation, connect the mounting plate to the spring in the proper orientation, and align the central line of any upper mounting stud with the central line of lower shock mount. Mount the plate and spring back onto spring compressor, followed by mounting of the Shock Absorber/spring assembly, and lower the vehicle.
  • Q: How to service and repair a coil springs and shock absorber on GMC Envoy?
    A:
The service tasks for shock absorption require a strut spring compressor (J45400) as the primary tool. First elevate the vehicle using support equipment then take off the tire along with its wheel. Detach the shock module from the vehicle and initiate the removal process of the shock module yoke to shock absorber pinch bolt and nut. A flat-bladed tool should open the shock module yoke at the pinch bolt before you can remove the yoke from the absorber. The strut spring compressor (J45400) requires piece of heater hose to protect Coil Springs by resting on the shock module spring base during operation. The shock module should be inserted into the strut spring compressor (J45400) and the spring should remain compressed while the shock absorber moves without resistance. By turning the spring compressor forcing screw you should compress the coil spring before taking out the shock absorber upper retaining nut to detach the shock absorber from the shock module. Users should separate the forcing screw on the strut spring compressor (J45400) to remove the upper plate and coil spring combination. Place the coil spring together with the upper mounting plate on the strut spring compressor (J45400) then compress the spring before you install the shock absorber on the shock module. Secure the shock absorber retaining nut with a torque of 45 nm which corresponds to 33 ft. Lbs. Unhook the shock module from the strut spring compressor (J45400) then remove the heater hose pieces attached to the shock module spring. Reattach the shock module yoke to the shock absorber through the pinch bolt and nut before tightening it to 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the shock module on the vehicle before reattaching the tire and wheel then drop the vehicle back down.
