GMC Jimmy Emblem Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace or repair an emblem/nameplate on GMC Jimmy?
A: The first step is to place tape over the mounting area to protect it plus use tape markings for proper placement during installation. Heat the emblem/nameplate using a J 25070 Heat Gun (J 25070) in circular motions for 30 seconds until it can be lifted off using J 41409 Body Molding Removal Tool (J 41409). Leave adhesive tape on both surfaces when it does not free itself easily. Clean both surfaces using suitable adhesive cleaner and a lint-free cloth. Go ahead with the replacement when you find the tape has been compromised. Press the adhesive foam tape onto the back of the emblem/nameplate and fix it onto its surface. To secure body panels against fouling use 3M(TM) Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk (3M(TM) P/N 07501) and for plastic use VMP naphtha or 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water on a lint-free cloth. After cleaning the area with the solution wipe it dry then mark the site using tape only when needed. Place the emblem/nameplate on a surface heated to 80 to 105°F with the part at 85 to 90°F. Align the emblem/nameplate to manufacturing marks first and then firmly press it onto the mounting surface until it forms a secure bond throughout the surface. Take off the protective tape from the surface where you want to mount the item.
