GMC Jimmy Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on GMC Jimmy?
A: Start the Power Steering Pump replacement by unfastening the Fan Clutch from the Water Pump followed by driving belt removal and Power Steering Pump pulley detachment. The first step involves lifting and sustaining the motor vehicle followed by removing the component that protects the steering linkage. A drain pan should be positioned beneath the pump before disconnecting the power steering pressure hose. Lower the vehicle before you take out the air cleaner assembly then disconnect the power steering return hose and cap the hoses. The Power Steering Pump removal starts with removing the power steering filler neck tube mounting bolt and filler neck tube before unbolting the power steering rear mounting bracket nut and lower mounting nut from the engine stud along with the front mounting bolts which will allow pump removal. Place the Power Steering Pump into position then fasten it with front mounting bolts which should be tightened to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). The rear mounting bracket nut and lower mounting nut need to be attached before torquing them to 41 nm (31 ft. Lbs.). The installation requires users to reinstall the filler neck tube along with its mounting bolt while tightening it to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). The power steering cooler hose needs attachment alongside reinstalling the air cleaner assembly. After supporting the vehicle from elevated height connect the power steering pressure hose followed by a return to installing the steering linkage shield. Keep the vehicle in its lowered position and install the Power Steering Pump pulley followed by the Drive Belt and end with the Fan Clutch to attach it to the Water Pump. The power steering needs filling up while bleeding out air but the technician must check that the hoses maintain sufficient clearance from frame and other components during this procedure.
