First, raise and support the vehicle in order to replace the rear
Axle Shaft seal or bearing. Believe it or not, remove the tire and the wheel assembly, and then pull off the rear axle housing cover. Next, remove the Axle Shaft. To disengage the Axle Shaft seal and bearing from the axle housing, for the 8.6 axle, use the j 44685 - rear axle seal and bearing remover and the j 2619-01 - slide hammer. For the 9.5 or 9.75 axle use the j 29712 - wheel bearing remover to do the same job. In installing on the 8.6 axle, use the j 23690 - Axle Shaft bearing installer and the j 8092 - universal driver handle in fitting the Axle Shaft bearing until the tool hits against the axle tube and apply the j 21128 - axle pinion oil seal installer in seating the Axle Shaft seal into the axle tube. For the 9.5 or 9.75 axle the set j 29712 - wheel bearing remover for the bearing and j 29713 - axle seal installer for the seal. Once the installation is complete, reinstall the Axle Shaft, put the rear axle housing cover on, and place the tire and wheel assembly back in place. Lastly, spin the rear axle with lubricant and remove the support in order to lower the vehicle.
