GMC Sierra 3500 Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front brake pads on the 25/3500 Series on GMC Sierra 3500?
A: Start front pad replacement on the 25/3500 series by checking brake master cylinder fluid level; you can keep the current fluid if the reservoir sits at mid-point between maximum and minimum marks but you need to reduce the fluid if it sits above the midpoint. Insert a caliper compressor tool inside the brake caliper housing and press the two c-clamps tightly to push the pistons completely back. Pull out the brake caliper bolts without pressing the brake pedal as you take both rotors and calipers out. Hold the caliper steady using mechanic's wire without disconnecting the brake hose before you take out the brake pads and remove the old anti-rattle clips. Before adding new parts check the caliper and bracket condition then place the disc brake pads inside properly for 2500 series with wear sensor and 3500 series standards. Secure the caliper to the bracket by installing its bolts and tightening them to 80 ft. Lbs. (108 Nm). Put back the wheel and tire unit then take away the safety stands while lowering the vehicle down. Step on the brake pedal when the engine is off and slowly apply it to about 2/3 of its total range before easing up. Keep performing this action until the pedal feels solid to ensure the brake caliper pistons and pads are correctly seated. Clear brake fluid needs to be added up to the proper mark in the master cylinder tank and pads should be run against rotors to smooth out their surfaces.
