GMC Sonoma Ball Joint Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the lower ball joint on a 4WD on GMC Sonoma?
A: Before starting the lower Ball Joint replacement on a 4wd you must lift the vehicle and secure it while taking off the tire and wheel. Take off the Torsion Bar parts and separate the wheel drive shaft. Make a 1/8 inch pilot hole 1/4 inch deep at the center of each lower Ball Joint rivet before removing the rivet heads with a 1/2 inch drill. Use a pin punch tool to get rid of the rivets and remove the lower Ball Joint from the lower Control Arm. After fitting the new lower Ball Joint onto the lower Control Arm according to service precautions, tighten the lower Ball Joint retaining nuts to 23 nm using the recommended fastening process. Reconnect the wheel drive shaft and put back the Torsion Bar before mounting the tire and wheel assembly then lower the car. End the repair process by inspecting wheel alignment at the front.
