GMC Yukon Brake Calipers Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on a 2500 Series on GMC Yukon?
A: The front brake caliper replacement process for a 2500 series vehicle begins with determining the fluid reserve level in the brake master cylinder reservoir; proceed only if the fluid sits at the midpoint between maximum-full and minimum allowance. The reservoir fluid should stay at the midpoint between the highest and lowest markings unless it is above which requires adjusting to midpoint. The vehicle needs to be elevated for support after which technicians need to disconnect the tire and wheel setup. Apply two big c-clamps across the brake caliper housing toward the outboard brake pad to compress its pistons until complete piston retraction occurs. Cleaning of the brake caliper while plugging or capping the brake hose prevents leaking followed by a check for any stray washers before they are discarded for new ones. Before installation replace the old brake hose with its existing 2 copper gaskets and then detach the brake hose to caliper bolt and brake hose itself from the system. You must never apply brake force with the rotors/calipers or drums free to protect the parts from damage. Remove the guide pin bolts from the brake caliper mount then detach the caliper from its bracket. The installation requires you to mount the new brake caliper onto the bracket while maintaining bracket focus using bolts tightened to 108 nm (80 lb ft). Copper brake hose gaskets should be installed on the Brake Caliper Bolt and hose before attaching them to the brake to caliper fitting while removing the plug or cap from the brake hose. Secure the brake hose to caliper bolt at a torque of 45 nm (33 lb ft) then bleed the brake system. Completing the installation requires one to reinstall the tire and wheel assembly and if needed, to fill the master cylinder reservoir with clean brake fluid up to the proper level.
