Q: How to replace the tailgate latch on GMC Yukon?
A: Begin by lowering the endgate while loosening the handle bolts before raising the endgate. Start by prying gently on the upper retainer tabs of the handle bezel to disengage both linkage rods. First support the endgate when lowered before removing the cables from their bolts securing the side panel cable retainers and the latch assembly bolt. Remove the endgate's latch assembly by taking away the linkage rod that connects to this assembly. Follow Service Precautions Fastener Notice during vehicle assembly to engage the linkage rod with the latch assembly then place the assembly on the vehicle. Secure the latch assembly bolts at a torque setting of 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Attach endgate cables to side panel cable retainer bolts while linking rods to the rear and lift the endgate up to install its handle bezel which must fully plug into position before tightening bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Tighten the handle bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft) torque specifications.
