Starting the tailgate handle replacement requires opening the liftgate followed by removing the trim panel before proceeding. First detach the actuator cable assembly and remove nuts from the endgate section behind the handle assembly to extract the entire handle assembly. Secure the handle assembly to endgate positions by following the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions and fasten nuts on the handle assembly from endgate back while tightening bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in). After reinstalling the liftgate trim panel you should connect the actuator cable assembly back to the handle.
