Body Control Module

The first step to replace the Rear Body Control Module is to take off the right rear body side trim. You should take off the rear body control module from its mounting bracket by unfastening the electrical connectors attached to the back. Reattach the electrical system between the module and the mounting bracket afterward you put it back into position. After replacement put the right rear body side trim back and program the module when necessary.

The procedures to set up a new bcm include updating its firmware with factory specifications while ensuring the battery functions properly with the Ignition Switch in on position and data link connections between all components. Without appropriate bcm configuration the vehicle will not start and other system features will not work properly. Start your work with the bcm by installing new software and learning the restraints id. The bcm will return to default settings when the procedure ends so tell the customer to reset personalization after that. You can learn the restraints id through the Body Control Module section of the scan tool. Browse to module setup > setup sdm primary key in bcm and follow the displayed directions. The key method to avoid debugging errors involves switching off the ignition for 10 seconds then connecting the scan tool to the data link connector before starting the ignition with the engine at rest. This process allows dtc history retrieval from all modules through the scan tool to ensure correct data processing.

Reinstall the right rear body side trim and reprogram the module as needed.

Position the module onto the mounting bracket and connect the electrical connectors.

Retrieve data from the malfunctioning BCM.

Pry the BCM tabs from the locking tabs on the underside of the restraint and slide the BCM out of the retainer.

Remove the radio bezel and disconnect the BCM electrical harnesses.
