    Q:
What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair the CV Boot, and What Are the Steps Involved on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The different tools one as to have to service and repair the constant velocity joint boot, to be precise for the outer wheel drive shaft outer joint and seal replacement which will include. J 35910 drive axle seal clamp plier (J 35910) and j 8059 snap ring pliers (J 8059). In starting, you should strip off the inner seal without damaging the outer race by using the hand grinder. Using the hand grinder, cut through the big retaining clamp at the cn joint and discard it. Meanwhile, cut through the small retaining clamp on the small end of the outer seal and throw it. Take off the outer seal of cn joint and throw it away. For installation, pack the cn joint assembly with a pre-measured grease supplied in the kit. Furthermore, apply the new small retaining clamp over the outer seal, and then apply the new large retaining clamp. Position the small end of the outer seal into the cn joint outer seal groove on the driveshaft bar, and attach small retaining clamp to the outer seal with the j 35910 (or equivalent), a breaker bar, and a torque wrench, torquing to 136 nm (100 ft. Lbs.), the same as the inner seal. Slide the large diameter of the outer seal, facing the large retaining ring on its place over the outside edge of the cn joint making sure that the lip of the outer seal has entered firmly into the groove of the cn joint. Modify the outer seal by eliminating any excess air, readjust the large retaining clamp to the cn joint housing using the j 35910 (or related) with a breaker lethal tighten it in place using a torque wrench and a torque of 176 nm (130 ft. Lbs.). Finally, measure the gap dimension at the clamp ear, angulate the cn joint a few times to spread the grease and mount the inner seal.

    Q:
How to replace the outer CV boot on the wheel drive shaft on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement of the outer wheel drive shaft outer joint together with boot requires these essential tools: the replacement requires drive axle seal clamp plier j 35910 alongside snap ring pliers j 8059. Drive axle seal clamp plier (J 35910) and snap ring pliers (J 8059). First remove the inner seal before you cut the large retaining clamp at the c/v joint using a hand grinder. After cutting discard this clamp. Cut through and eliminate the small retaining clamp on the outer seal's little end. Keep the c/v joint connected to the driveshaft bar since removing it would require a new complete driveshaft replacement. Replace the outer c/v joint seal with new grease then dry the c/v joint completely before packing it with cleaning debris. Begin by filling the c/v joint assembly with pre-packaged grease from the kit followed by installation of the new small retaining clamp then new large retaining clamp onto the outer seal. Place the small end of the outer seal into the c/v joint outer seal groove of the driveshaft bar using only the proper fasteners at their assigned locations. Gather a torque wrench and breaker bar with the drive axle seal clamp plier (J 35910) to tighten the small retaining clamp to the outer seal at 136 nm (100 lb ft). Guide the large exterior part of the seal onto the c/v joint before placing the lip into its groove and smooth out air bubbles through outer seal manipulation. User must install the large retaining clamp to the c/v joint housing by using the drive axle seal clamp plier (J 35910) together with a breaker bar and torque wrench to achieve 176 nm (130 lb ft) torque. Users must then check the clamp ear gap dimension before angulating the c/v joint multiple times to spread the grease and finally installing the inner seal.

    Q:
How to replace the outer CV Boot and CV Joint of the constant velocity joint on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the outer joint and boot of the constant velocity joint, first acquire the tools for it, basically: drive axle seal clamp plier (J 35910) and snap ring plier/j 8059. First strip off the inner seal, make sure not to damage the outer race using a hand grinder to cut into the large retainer clamp that is at the c/v joint that can then be discarded. Then, use scissors to cut through the small retaining clamp at the small end of the outer seal, and get rid of that too. It is very important not to detach the c/v joint from the driveshaft bar because once this is done, the entire driveshaft assembly would need replacement. It is important to peel off the outer seal from the c/v joint, clear out the old grease, and air-dry it thoroughly. Thereafter pack the c/v joint assembly with the pre-measured grease from the kit at which point you should install the new small retaining clamp onto the outer seal, applying it over the new large retaining clamp. Position the small end of the outer seal into the c/v joint outer seal groove of the driveshaft bar, and secure the small retaining clamp to the outer seal with a torque wrench, the breaker bar, j 35910. Torque the clamp to 136 n.m (100 lb ft). Slide larger diameter of outer seal on the c/v joint so that lip is in groove and manipulate outer seal to expel air from seal. Attach the large retaining clamp to the c/v joint housing, using the drive axle seal clamp plier (J 35910), a breaker bar, and a torque wrench (176 N.m (130 lb ft)). Last but not least, inspect the gap dimension on the clamp ear, angulate the c/v joint multiple times to spread the grease, and apply the inner seal.
