    Q:
How to replace the camshaft on Chevrolet Express 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process of Camshaft replacement starts by evacuating air from the air conditioning system when present followed by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. The first step requires draining engine oil and afterward removing the valve lifters. The repair begins by detaching the engine cooling fan together with the Fan Shroud and continues with removing the Radiator grille and hood latch bracket. The installer should start by taking out the Radiator along with the A/C Condenser when included before moving onto the Water Pump. The first step is to remove the three Crankshaft Pulley bolts and the Crankshaft Pulley along with raising the vehicle for access to the Oil Pan which must be removed. First disconnect the engine front cover and crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring from the unit before lowering the vehicle. Turn the number one piston to position at top dead center (TDC) then line up the sprocket timing marks on both Camshaft and crankshaft components. Begin the process by removing Camshaft sprocket bolts after which you must remove the Camshaft sprocket along with the Timing Chain. The t-30 torx 69 socket extracts the Camshaft retainer plate and bolts while the Camshaft requires removal from its position. Evaluate all mechanical components for wear while cleaning each surface where seals will be installed. You must reposition the Camshaft before putting back all front engine components while rising the vehicle then installing the Oil Pan fasteners. Install the crankshaft balancer by means of the balancer remover and installer (J 23523-F) while the vehicle is at its lowered position. The installation order includes both the Water Pump with any necessary A/C Condenser components along with the Radiator and hood latch bracket and Radiator grille and engine cooling fan and upper Fan Shroud. The procedure requires installation of valve lifters along with lower Intake Manifold and valve rocker arms and push rods. Connect the battery negative cable and install the engine oil filter as the final steps of the procedure.

    Q:
How to replace the camshaft on Chevrolet K3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process for the Camshaft begins with disconnecting the negative cable of the battery. Begin the procedure by removing the air intake duct from the Throttle Body then proceed to remove the grille from the vehicle and the Radiator assembly and end with removing the air conditioning condenser. The engine block requires removal of upper and lower intake manifolds before extracting valve Rocker Arm covers followed by valve rocker arms then valve push rods until the last step involves removing valve lifters from the engine block. The crankshaft balancer along with the Water Pump along with engine front cover and crankshaft position reluctor ring must be removed from the motor. The sprocket remover (J 28509-A) helps remove the Camshaft sprocket after which users should take out the Camshaft retainer bolt and retainer. Three 5/16 18 bolts measuring 4 to 5 inches in length must be installed into Camshaft threaded bolt holes to draw out the Camshaft from the engine block while avoiding Camshaft Bearing damage. Before placing the Camshaft inside the engine block you must first coat its bearings and lobes with engine oil supplement gm p/n 1052367. Hang the Camshaft retainer and tighten its bolts to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) after you have removed its three 5/16 18 bolts. The seal installer (J 22101) allows installation of the crankshaft sprocket before proceeding with the Timing Chain and Camshaft sprocket. The installation of Camshaft sprocket bolts requires a torque setting of 30 nm at 22 ft. Lbs. Reinstall the crankshaft position reluctor ring along with engine front cover, water pump, crankshaft balancer, valve lifters, push rods and valve rocker arms. The next step includes mounting the lower and upper intake manifolds after which you should install valve Rocker Arm covers, air cleaner duct, radiator and air conditioning condenser and grille. The last step involves placing the Drive Belt on drive pulleys while reinstalling the battery negative cables.

    Q:
How to replace the camshaft on GMC C2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Started with disconnecting the battery negative cable, then raising the hood following the hood hinge bolt into the servicing position. Start by draining the engine coolant before removing both Radiator hoses and the air cleaner duct and a/c condenser mounting bolts when present. Start by taking off the Radiator support and Radiator before the engine cooling fan and Drive Belt follow along with any additional a/c tools required. The service begins with engine sight shield removal followed by electrical wiring harness disconnection from the Water Pump and Thermostat Housing. Raising the vehicle allows technicians to uninstall the Starter motor, right side closeout cover and bolt and engine Oil Pan, crankshaft balancer, valve lifters, cylinder heads and engine front cover. After setting the timing marks on Camshaft and crankshaft sprockets at the correct firing position of piston number one remove the sprocket and Camshaft. A complete cleaning process must precede installation of both the new Camshaft and Camshaft sprocket together with the Timing Chain and valve lifters and cylinder heads. Installation begins with these components: engine front cover followed by engine Oil Pan and right side closeout cover and then Starter motor and crankshaft balancer and Water Pump. Then you should install the a/c Drive Belt when equipped before putting on the Drive Belt. Afterward, connect the electrical wiring harness to the Thermostat Housing. The repair procedure requires installation of the engine sight shield along with the Radiator support and Radiator before proceeding with the a/c condenser mounting bolts if equipped and engine cooling fan and air cleaner duct. To finish the procedure disconnect the battery negative cable then lower the hood.
