    Q:
How to replace the A/C Clutch assembly on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
The air conditioning Drive Belt must be detached before the electrical connector from the air compressor coil assembly needs to be removed. Apply the universal spanner wrench (J 37872) to remove the air conditioning clutch screw then detach the clutch from the splined shaft while you note the shims that exist between clutch and housing. After discarding the pulley and bearing assembly retainer you should remove the pulley and bearing assembly from the air compressor. Discard the coil assembly retainer before removing the coil assembly from the air compressor. Then discard the air conditioner compressor felt. The installation begins with filling the air conditioner compressor with fresh felt and proceeding to attach the coil assembly before fixing it using a new coil assembly retainer. Affix the pulley with bearing assembly onto the air compressor next attach the new assembly retainer for the pulley with bearing. Screw the clutch onto the splined shaft maintaining a 0.3-0.6 mm (0.011-0.024 in) air space between the clutch and pulley through the use of shims. The universal spanner wrench (J 37872) enables proper installation of the air conditioning clutch screw which needs to be secured with 4 n.m (35 lb in) torque. To complete the process replace the air conditioning Drive Belt after you reconnect the electrical connector to the air compressor coil assembly.
