The replacement of automatic transmission fluid and filter starts with raising and supporting the vehicle. You should start by placing a drain pan under the transaxle Oil Pan then procede to carefully remove the front-side bolts of the Oil Pan while turning the rear bolts about four turns only. A rubber mallet does the job of loosening the Oil Pan by tapping it while the transmission fluid drains into a drain pan before you visually check the color of the fluid. You should remove all Oil Pan bolts before separating the Oil Pan from the gasket along with the Oil Pan itself. A long screwdriver enables users to free the oil filter neck from its seal so they can examine the oil filter seal for signs of wear and damage. Remove the Oil Pan Gasket through combination use of the j 6125-1b (J 6125-1B Slide Hammer) and j 23129 (J 23129 Universal Seal Remover). Before inserting a new seal into position apply a small amount of j 36850 (J 36850 Transmission Assembly Lubricant) or petroleum jelly. Then place the new filter into the case using existing Oil Pan gaskets unless the sealing surface has damage. The installation of Oil Pan and gasket must be done at once before tightening Oil Pan bolts to 14 n.m (125 lb in). Lower the vehicle while checking both transmission fluid level and Oil Pan Gasket for leaks. Complete the procedure by filling the transaxle to the proper levels.

A transmission overhaul requires service of the fluid filter located beneath the side cover of the hydra-matic 4t30-e transmission by removing the transmission before removing its case side cover with gasket. Perform required maintenance then reattach the case side cover together with its gasket prior to putting back the Transmission Assembly. Always replace scavenging screens that are found below the bottom transmission pan while you perform fluid changes.

Inspect the oil pan and filter for foreign materials such as metal particles, clutch facing material, rubber particles, and engine coolant.

Remove the drain plug after the bottom pan is removed.

Next, take out the filter (100) and the lip ring seal (101) only if replacement is necessary.

Avoid damaging the sealing surfaces to prevent oil leaks.

Loosen them about four turns.
