    Q:
How to service and repair the right-hand Rack and Pinion steering gear off on Cadillac DeVille? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service or repair work on the right-hand rack and pinion starts by unstowing both fittings on the cylinder end then unstowing both fittings on the cylinder line assemblies at the valve end of the rack and pinion assembly. First remove the cylinder line assemblies from the rack and pinion assembly then extract the O-ring seals from the valve end of each line before discarding them. Check the cylinder lines for damages to the threads, dents and cracks before you replace defective parts. Hand-tighten all fittings while ensuring their threads remain properly aligned so you prevent both stripping and cross-threading issues. Fasten the cylinder line assemblies to the rack and pinion assembly by tightening valve end connections to 16.9 Nm (12.6 ft. lbs.) and cylinder end connections to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Then install new O-ring seals to the valve end of each cylinder line. Both power steering system flushing and bleeding operations require GM P/N 1050017 fluid (or equivalent fluid meeting GM Specification number 9985010) for the whole system including hoses, reservoir and cooler lines followed by power steering system bleeding.
