    Q:
How to replace the steering knuckle on Chevrolet S10? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the Steering Knuckle, raise and support the vehicle, remove the tire as well as the wheel, then remove the Wheel Hub and the bearing. Next, take out cotter pin from outer tie rod retaining nut and nut as well. Detach the outer tie rod end from the Steering Knuckle, using the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B). Continue to loosen the wheel speed sensor wiring harness bracket and brake hose bracket mounting bolt and nuts from the upper Control Arm and pry the brackets off. Take out the cotter pin on the upper Ball Joint retaining nut and remove the nut. While using a pry bar, apply upward pressure on the upper Control Arm and, with help, hammer the Steering Knuckle close to the upper Ball Joint stud to disconnect it. Take off the upper Ball Joint, then, do the lower Ball Joint by first removing its cotter pin and retaining nut, disconnect it from the Steering Knuckle by using the Ball Joint separator tool (J 43631). Once the Steering Knuckle and its seal are removed, install a new Steering Knuckle seal and drop the Steering Knuckle onto the upper and lower Ball Joint studs. Tighten the lower Ball Joint retaining nut to 108 nm (79 ft. Lbs.), were required to align the cotter pin without turning more than a 1/6 turn. Install a new cotter pin and turn both ends in towards the nut. Follow the same procedure for the upper Ball Joint by tightening its retaining nut at 83 nm (61 ft. Lbs.) and placing a new cotter pin. To conclude, install the tie rod end ball to knuckle of steering with the outer tie rod ball retainer nut tightened to 53 nm (39 ft. Lbs.) with a new cotter pin. Finish the process by reinstalling the Wheel Hub and bearing, and inspecting the front wheel alignment.
