Transmission Mount

Before examining the automatic transmission mount you must position a piece of wood across the Oil Pan's bottom width to protect the Oil Pan from damage which could result in engine failure. Before fixing any transmission mount because of fluid leakage suspicions inspect if fluid actually originates from the transmission mount instead of other engine or transmission components or accessories. An upward movement of the transmission will take stress off the transmission mount and generate light elastic effects in the rubber. Check the transmission mount and replace it when a hard rubber surface shows heat-check cracks, a rubber-metal separation or the rubber material splits through the center. Lower the transmission onto the mount before applying tension to the bolts or nuts which connect the mount to its frame or bracket attachments.

To check the transmission mount, first, insert a block of wood that covers the width of the Oil Pan bottom as it rests on the jack support to keep the Oil Pan from being damaged and potential engine failure. It is usually true to confirm that the fluid source is the transmission mount itself and not the engine, transmission, or accessories before replacing any transmission mount based on suspected loss of fluid. Increase the transmission to relieve the weight from the transmission mount and put a small tension on the rubber. When lifting the transmission, examine the transmission for any of these conditions: the hard rubber surface should not be full of heat check cracks, the rubber could not came off of the metal plate, and should not splits from the middle of the mount. In case there is admixture which is visible between the metal plate of the transmission mount and its attaching points, then lower the transmission mount on the mount and tighten the bolts or nuts which are attaching the mount to the frame or the transmission mount bracket.

Before checking the transmission mount install a wood block across the Oil Pan bottom to prevent damage and engine failure to the Oil Pan. A utility stand or jack should lift the transmission/transaxle until tension builds in the mount while weight leaves the mount. Check the transmission/transaxle mount for signs of cracks on the rubber surface as well as rubber to metal plate separation or splits through the rubber. An inspection of the rubber surface should look for breaks as well as rubber detachment from the metal plate and center splits in the rubber material. Replace the transmission/transaxle mount when any of its listed conditions are active. Check for movement between the transmission and the metal plate in the transmission/transaxle mount before tightening all fasteners to their specified tightening torque.

Before you can replace the transmission mount, first take off the transaxle mount bracket. After that, loosen and take out the nuts that secure the transaxle mount to the frame bracket, and then remove the transaxle mount from the bracket. Make sure you put the transaxle mount onto the transaxle mount frame bracket according to the fastener notice. Attach the transaxle mount lower nuts to the frame bracket and make sure they are tightened to 47 N.m (35 lb ft). In the end, mount the transaxle mount bracket onto the transaxle.

Take off the transaxle mount lower nuts securing the transaxle mount to the transaxle mount frame bracket.

Remove the transmission jack from the transaxle, reinstall the left inner splash shield, put back the left wheel and tire assembly, and finally lower the vehicle.

Remove the transaxle mount lower nuts (NPN 1152) from the frame and take the transaxle mount out.

Remove the transaxle mount upper nuts from the transaxle bracket.

Tighten them to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) as per the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Secure the transaxle mount lower nuts to the frame bracket, tightening them to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).

Position the transaxle mount onto the frame bracket and secure it with the lower nuts.

Use a jack or a utility stand to raise the transmission/transaxle.

Position the transaxle mount onto the transaxle mount frame bracket, ensuring to follow the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Look for cracks on the rubber surface, separation of the rubber from the metal plate, or splits through the center of the rubber.

Position the transaxle mount onto the transaxle mount frame bracket, ensuring to adhere to the Fastener Notice.

First, remove the transaxle mount bracket.

Reinstall the transaxle mount bracket to the transaxle.

Insert a block of wood that spans the width of the oil pan bottom between the oil pan and the jack support to prevent oil pan damage and possible engine failure.

Position the transaxle mount onto the transaxle mount frame bracket, ensuring to follow the Fastener Notice.

First, remove the transaxle mount bracket.

Remove the transaxle mount lower nuts (N/A) from the frame.

Confirm that the fluid source is indeed the mount and not the engine or accessories.

Take out the transaxle mount itself.

Tighten them to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
