    Q:
How to Replace the Coil Springs and Shock Absorber on Cadillac STS? Posted by Customer
    A:
The vehicle needs to be raised while supported before you replace the shock absorber and its components. After removing the wheel together with the tire locate the shock module for extraction. Place the shock module inside the spring compressor while indicating the upper Control Arm assembly and insulator for proper placement with the spring in compressed position when the shock absorber moves without hindrance. Use the spring compressor forcing screw to compress the coil spring while rotating it until ready for shock absorber removal from the shock module after removal of magnaride sensor nut and shock absorber upper retaining nut. To proceed with the removal you must first separate the upper mounting plate and coil spring by turning the compressor forcing screw before taking out the upper Control Arm Bracket assembly with insulator. When installing the shock absorber position its lower mounting holes so the alignment pins on the upper Control Arm Bracket face a 90-degree angle. Place the components in the spring compressor with proper alignment of markings while reusing the forcing screw to compress the coil spring. Install the shock absorber retaining nut before tightening it to 25 nm (18 lb ft) then fasten the magnaride sensor nut to 20 nm (15 lb ft). After removing the shock module from the spring compressor install it onto the vehicle. After completing the installation of the tire and wheel the vehicle should be lowered to the ground.
