When replacing the shock absorber system on vehicles with esc or automatic headlamp aiming the suspension sensor link rod should be removed from the Control Arm while securing the ball stud from rotational movement with hand tools. Seize the upper Control Arm at its knuckle interface before taking off the retaining nut while inserting a hex-head tool to keep the ball stud from moving. Using the j 24319-b (Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller) pull apart the upper Control Arm from the Steering Knuckle while first removing the upper Control Arm to Steering Knuckle nut. Start by lowering the automobile and disconnect the damper coil harness connector whenever esc is present. The technician should remove the shock module upper mounting bolts to extract the shock module from the vehicle. Installation begins by mounting the shock module into its location and following the advised fastener procedures while torquing upper bolts to 112 nm (83 lb ft). Vehicles with esc need a reconnect of their damper coil harness connector followed by another vehicle rise before the upper Control Arm installation to the Steering Knuckle with 80 nm (59 lb ft) retaining nut torque. To install the suspension position sensor link rod in vehicles with esc or automatic headlamp affecting systems install the shock yoke followed by shock attachment to the yoke. Lower the vehicle and replace the tire with its wheel until the wheel is secure.
