    Q:
How to replace the upper control arm on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lift the car up and support it before you take off the tire and wheel. After that, unscrew the brake caliper mounting bracket and take off the shock absorber. Unscrew the upper Ball Joint retaining nut on the knuckle, and bracket out the upper Ball Joint from the upper Control Arm using j 43631. Then, remove all the upper Control Arm nuts and bolts from the frame, and take the whole upper Control Arm out of the vehicle. Put the upper Control Arm into the frame, attach the bolts and nuts, and tighten them to 150 n.m (111 lb ft). Join the upper Ball Joint to the knuckle and screw the nut on until it turns 20 n.m (15 lb ft) plus 210 degrees. Start by installing the brake caliper mounting bracket, continue with the shock absorber, and then put the tire and wheel assembly onto the wheel studs. Afterwards, take off the support and slowly lower the vehicle, then look at the rear wheel alignment.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Control Arm on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the upper Control Arm, first, lift and support the vehicle, and the tire and wheel to be removed. Next, pull out the brake caliper with the mounting bracket in place, suspending it with mechanics wire. Next, remove the brake caliper mounting bracket and the shock absorber. Loosen the upper Ball Joint retaining nut off the knuckle, and using the j 43631 (Ball Joint Remover), separate the upper Ball Joint from the upper Control Arm. Go ahead and remove the upper Control Arm nuts and bolts from the frame, and then remove the upper Control Arm. For installation, align the upper Control Arm in the frame and make sure that the mounting bolts and the pins are screwed up to 120nm (88 lb ft). Mount the upper Ball Joint onto the knuckle and bolt it with 20 nm (15 lb ft) plus another 210 degrees turn. Mount the brake caliper mounting bracket and shock absorber and replace the tire and the wheel assembly. Finally, take away the support and drop the vehicle, and then inspect the rear wheel alignment.

    Q:
How to replace the trailing arm on Cadillac STS? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the Trailing Arm, one should lift and secure the vehicle, remove the tire and the wheel. Remove the automatic level control link from the upper Control Arm, along with the brake pipe bracket retaining nuts, and finally the brake pipe bracket from the mounting studs. Support the lower Control Arm with an appropriate jack, and remove trailing link to knuckle nut and bolt. Support the frame with a proper jack once the jack is removed, and then take out the front bolts from the frame to lower the front end of the rear frame. Afterwards, take off trailing link to frame nut and bolt, and remove trailing link from vehicle. For installation, place the trailing link back to the vehicle tightly but loosely installed prior to tightening. Place the trailing link to frame bolt and nut and lift the frame using a suitable jack. Use the front bolts to install to theframe and tighten to the extent of 265 nm (195 ft. Lbs.). Take off the jack and hold the lower Control Arm with an adequate jack to align the trailing link and the knuckle. Apply the trailing link to knuckle bolt and nut, tightening the trailing link to frame nut to 150 nm(111 ft. Lbs), and the trailing link to knuckle mounting bolt, 170 nm(125 ft. Lbs). Remove the brake pipe bracket from the mounting studs, while securing nuts into the brake pipe bracket retaining nuts, turn tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) before mounting back the automatic level control link to the upper Control Arm. Lastly, attach the tire and wheel back, but before lowering the vehicle.
