The first step for intermediate steering shaft seal replacement requires positioning your wheels straight ahead and locking the Steering Column into the lock position before proceeding to avoid damage to the coil assembly. The Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) serves to keep the Steering Column in place. The next procedure involves removing the dash insulator together with disconnecting the intermediate shaft seal from the Steering Column and the intermediate shaft. The intermediate shaft requires downward force to achieve collapse before bolt removal from the intermediate shaft seal while possibly requiring separate lower portion removal from the steering gear. Reinstall the lower seal onto the intermediate shaft before securing it to the steering gear followed by placing the upper seal on top of the lower seal and routing it toward the instrument panel. Secure the intermediate shaft to the Steering Column while attaching the intermediate shaft seal to the column's surface then bolt the seal using 3 n.m (27 lb in) torque. Safely reinstall the dash insulator followed by the removal of the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) from the column.

When replacing the intermediate Steering Shaft seal maintain your wheels facing straight ahead and secure Steering Column through lock position to protect the sir coil assembly. Begin with the Steering Wheel in a direct horizontal position then insert the Steering Column lock pin (J42640) through the Steering Column access hole to preserve correct alignment. There are three steps to complete the replacement including removing the air cleaner assembly first followed by uninstalling the intermediate shaft pinch bolt before disconnecting the intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering gear. First remove the intermediate shaft seal bolts before extracting the intermediate Steering Shaft seal from your vehicle. Insert the new intermediate shaft seal onto the Steering Column previously align the hole openings on the Floor Pan and use a torque wrench to fasten the intermediate shaft seal bolts at 3 nm (27 inch lbs.). Fitting the intermediate shaft pinch bolt requires to tighten it to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) with specific attention to keep the lower portion of the seal facing the steering gear. After reinstalling the air cleaner assembly, removing the Steering Column lock pin (J42640), you must operate the steering to verify that the intermediate Steering Shaft does not bind with the new intermediate Steering Shaft seal.

Beginning the intermediate Steering Shaft seal replacement requires removal of the Steering Column and intermediate Steering Shaft and vacuum Brake Booster. First disconnect the fuel lines connected to under hood fasteners to reach the Steering Shaft seal bolts before removing these bolts and extracting the Steering Shaft seal from the vehicle. Secure the new intermediate shaft seal within the vehicle by matching its holes to those on the floor pan. Use intermediate shaft seal bolts to connect it and tighten them to 3 nm (27 inch lbs.). The first step of installation includes setting the fuel bundle into the under hood fasteners followed by the vacuum Brake Booster and the Steering Column and intermediate Steering Shaft. During post-installation testing ensure that the intermediate shaft operates without resistance or binding at the intermediate Steering Shaft seal hub.

Begin by applying the lock position to your Steering Column and ensuring your vehicle's wheels face straight ahead before you start to prevent sir coil assembly damage. Insert the j 42640 (J 42640) into the Steering Column access hole to create a lock before pointing the Steering Wheel directly forward. Successively remove the vehicle's air cleaner assembly before extracting the intermediate shaft pinch bolt to detach the intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering gear. The intermediate Steering Shaft seal bolts must be discarded before extracting the intermediate Steering Shaft seal outside of the vehicle. Install the new intermediate shaft seal to the Steering Column base while matching its holes to floor pan positions before securing the intermediary shaft seal bolts at 3 nm (27 inch lbs.). Insert the intermediate shaft pinch bolt before torquing it to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) while checking that the lower seal section faces the steering gear. After installation reopen the air cleaner compartment and pull out tool j 42640 (J 42640) from the Steering Column access hole before checking steering movement to ensure no binding occurs between the intermediate Steering Shaft and the intermediate Steering Shaft seal.

To replace the seal on the intermediate Steering Shaft, first remove the Steering Column and the intermediate steering, as well as, taking off the vacuum Brake Booster. Remove the fuel lines attached to the under hood fasteners to access the Steering Shaft seal retaining bolts and remove them and take out the intermediate Steering Shaft seal from the vehicle. For installation, insert the new intermediate shaft seal into the vehicle and ensure that it is aligned with the holes on the floor pan; fix with the intermediate shaft seal bolts tight up to 3 nm (27 inch lbs.). Install the fuel bundle back into the under hood fasteners, vacuum Brake Booster then followed by the Steering Column/intermediate Steering Shaft. Perform installation, then use the steering and ensure there is no binding between the intermediate Steering Shaft and the intermediate Steering Shaft seal.

To replace the seal on the intermediate Steering Shaft, one has to disconnect the Steering Column and intermediate Steering Shaft, the vacuum Brake Booster. Unscrew the fuel lines from the under-hood fasteners to reach the Steering Shaft seal retaining bolts, remove them, and drive out the retaining bolts as well as the intermediate Steering Shaft seal. For installation, insert the new intermediate shaft seal into the vehicle such that it is bound to the holes on the floor pan and fasten it using intermediate shaft seal bolts tighten to 3 nm (27 inch lbs.). Replace the fuel bundle into the under the hood fasteners, thereafter, replacing the vacuum Brake Booster and lastly, replacing the Steering Column and intermediate Steering Shaft. After installation, test the steering to ensure that there is no binding between the intermediate Steering Shaft and the intermediate Steering Shaft seal.

Reinstall the fuel bundle into the under hood fasteners, followed by the vacuum brake booster, and finally the steering column and intermediate steering shaft.
