    Q:
How to replace the front air bag sensor on GMC Jimmy? Posted by Customer
    A:
Handle the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor with care when replacing it so you avoid hitting or jiggling the component. Check that your mounting surface is dust-free while placing your sensor flat on its back with the marker pointing forward. The specified torque settings for sensor fasteners must be used for both safety and deployment prevention of Air Bags. Follow this procedure by first disabling the SIR system before taking off the off-road skid plate if your car has one installed. The installation of the sensor requires disconnecting the harness from the sensor by removing the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from its connector. Start by removing the mounting rivets using a drill tool. Replace damaged mounting holes or fasteners by extracting the defective rivet and installing a fresh one. Additional repairs demand rivet removal and hole expansion of the lower radiator support to 9.0 mm (0.35 in). After rivnut insertion when attaching the sensor with a screw apply 8.0 N.m (71 lb in) torque. Follow these instructions for installation by connecting the sensor to the forward-facing position of the lower radiator support while using GM P/N 15715058 rivets and reconnecting the harness and securing the CPA and reinstalling the off-road skid plate whether needed and activating the SIR system.
