Heat Shield, Rear Driver Side

Vehicle support will be necessary before starting the Exhaust Heat Shield dash panel replacement. Start by removing shield bolts from the engine area followed by removing the shield itself when necessary. Vehicle owners operating a 1500 series model should begin by removing the skid plate bolts and the skid plate itself if a unit is present. The oil pan skid plate requires bolt removal starting with 2 rear bolts that need loosening on 2500 series vehicles. The 2 front oil pan skid plate bolts and skid plate must be removed for this equipment. Before proceeding with the work please detach the Catalytic Converter if it is needed. The first step requires you to remove the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield nuts either in pairs or groups of four before removing the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield pieces one or three from their studs on the dash panel. When installing the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield (1 or 3) secure its studs using nuts (2 or 4) while tightening them to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Follow the procedure to put back the Catalytic Converter (if needed). The 2500 series requires installation of the oil pan skid plate following a process where the 2 rear plate bolts get tightened to 28 n.m (21 lb ft), while the front skid plate bolts get installed if equipment allows with a 28 n.m (21 lb ft) torque setting. The 1500 series vehicles require mounting their oil pan skid plate followed by bolt installation if equipped to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Lower the vehicle then position the engine shield onto the frame and install and tighten its bolts to 20 n.m (15 lb ft).

Begin the Exhaust Heat Shield replacement on the dash panel by supporting the vehicle while it is in an elevated position. Start by removing both the shield bolts attached to the engine then take out the shield if required. Owners of 1500 series vehicles should remove bolts from the skid plate for the oil pan while also unwiring the skid plate if the vehicle has this component. The process begins by loosening the rear bolts of the oil pan skid plate on 2500 series vehicles before removing both front oil pan skid plate bolts and skid plate when it is present. Catalytic converters must be taken off in case they are needed for replacement. Proceed by removing the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield nuts (2 or 4) as well as the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield (1 or 3) from dash panel studs. For attachment install the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield (1 or 3) onto dash panel studs by closely following fastener safety recommendations. Secure the screws that hold the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield (2 or 4) by tightening them to 9 nm (80 lb in). Installation of the Catalytic Converter should be performed when needed. Vehicle installation for 2500 series requires placing the oil pan skid plate followed by tightening the two rear bolts until they achieve initial snugness and adding the two front bolts (if equipped) while securing them to 28 nm (21 lb ft). The oil pan skid plate must be installed on the 1500 series vehicles followed by tightening the oil pan skid plate bolts to the manufacturer specification of 28 nm (21 lb ft) if the vehicle comes with this component. Affix the engine shield to the frame before securing its bolts to 20 nm (15 lb ft) torque value. Finally, lower the vehicle.

The first step of replacing a left side Exhaust Manifold heat shield requires removal of the left wheelhouse liner. Begin by removing both bolts that secure the Exhaust Manifold heat shield and later removing the heat shield from the Exhaust Manifold. Position the new heat shield onto the Exhaust Manifold and fasten it with heat shield bolts that should be tightened to 9 nm (80 lb in). Leave a space for reinstalling the left wheelhouse liner at the end of the replacement procedure.

The first step to replace the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield is to lift the vehicle then support it under its frame. First remove all bolts from the engine shield then detach the shield from its position. The removal process begins with extracting oil pan skid plate bolts as well as the skid plate from 1500 series models. The 2500 series requires bolt removal of both rear oil pan skid plate fasteners followed by removing the front oil pan skid plate fasteners and the skid plate if it is installed. The process requires discarding the Catalytic Converter if needed. Remove the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield nuts (2 or 4) followed by installing the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield (1 or 3) to the dash panel studs. Install the dash panel Exhaust Heat Shield (1 or 3) to the dash panel studs by tightly securing its nuts (2 or 4) with a torque of 9 nm (80 lb in). Reinstallation of the Catalytic Converter should proceed if required. The installation for 2500 series vehicles begins with placing the oil pan skid plate correctly before tightening the bolt at the rear position to 28 nm (21 lb ft). Additional elements for front bolts may exist which need installation and tightening to 28 nm (21 lb ft) if the vehicle has them. The 1500 series vehicles should have their oil pan skid plate both positioned and bolted with torque set at 28 nm (21 lb ft). Place the engine shield on the frame while installing its bolts to 20 nm (15 lb ft) before the vehicle reaches the ground.

The first step to replace a left side Exhaust Manifold heat shield requires removing the left wheelhouse liner. Start by removing both bolts securing the Exhaust Manifold heat shield and then extracting the shield from the Exhaust Manifold. The new heat shield installation should start by fitting it onto the Exhaust Manifold and following up with heat shield bolt placement and tightening to 9 nm (80 lb in). Reinstall the left wheelhouse liner as the last step.

Raise and support the vehicle.

First, remove the spark plug wires.

Tighten them to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

Reinstall the left wheelhouse liner.

Tighten them to 9 Nm (80 lb in).

Remove the right wheelhouse liner.

Position the new heat shield onto the exhaust manifold and secure it with the heat shield bolts.
