Begin drum Brake Backing Plate replacement by removing the Brake Drum and supporting the lower Control Arm assembly with an appropriate jack stand or fixture. The second step involves removing the brake shoes together with the universal spring. After disconnecting the wheel speed sensor connector on abs-equipped models replace the upper Control Arm Bolt while moving the arm safely away from the brake hose-wheeled cylinder connection. To stop fluid leakage during the brake hose banjo bolt removal please install capping or plugging on the opened hose. Keep the exposed brake hose isolated to prevent fluid leak and contamination. Use a wrench to remove Wheel Cylinder mounting bolts and pull out the Wheel Cylinder which should be detached from the backing plate assembly. Pull down the locking tabs to disconnect the park brake cable first from the backing plate then from the park brake lever. The assembly becomes removable after unscrewing the 4 nuts which secure the Wheel Bearing and backing plate assembly and spacer plate to the knuckle. You should remove the plugs of the backing plate assembly. To install the components begin by inserting the backing plate plugs into the new assembly before adding the Wheel Bearing while also fitting the backing plate assembly and spacer plate onto the knuckle and tightening all 4 nuts to 47 lb ft. Secure the park brake cable onto the backing plate assembly until the locking tabs activate before guiding it to the park brake lever. Install the Wheel Cylinder to the backing plate assembly and use mounting bolts that reach 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque. Uncover the brake hose end before you add the new copper gasket to the banjo bolt and tighten it to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). The procedure to install the upper Control Arm requires reconnecting the abs wheel speed sensor and tightening the bolt and nut to 180 n.m (133 lb ft). Reinstall the universal spring alongside brake shoes while removing the lower Control Arm assembly's jack stand support. Follow the drum brake adjustment procedures before installing the Brake Drum and finishing by bleeding the brake hydraulic system. Complete the procedure by lowering the vehicle then inspecting rear alignment.

Disconnect the park brake cable from the park brake lever and backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
